    Do many men get waxed?

    Male waxing is becoming very popular, and many travel miles to find a good male wax technician to do the job properly. They are discovering the benefits of having smooth, hair-free skin. Men from all walks of life, and all ages now undergo regular waxing treatments, and more and more are discovering the fabulous look and feel that this brings.

    Why do men get waxed?

    There are many reasons, but here are some of the ones people have told us about;

    * Reduced body odour, particularly in summer
    * Sports related benefits for swimmers, athletes and cyclists
    * Improved appearance and enhanced muscle definition
    * Increased self-confidence
    * Partners prefer the smooth look
    * Waxing of intimate areas heightens sensitivity

    Unlike shaving and hair removal creams, hair is removed by the root. This means it takes longer to grow back (Usually 2 - 3 months before your hair has grown back to its pre-wax state) and re-growth is noticeably softer and sparser. No itchy stubble, No risk of chemical burns from harsh shop bought hair removal creams, long lasting results and fantastically smooth skin… need any more convincing?

    What part of the body will not be waxed?

    The ONLY area of your body that cannot be waxed is your beard & your scalp – everything else can come off!

    What does a waxing treatment involve?

    The area to be treated is coated with a thin layer of warm wax, which sticks to the hair and removes it by the root when pulled off. We use a combination of soft wax (removed with paper strips) and hard wax (which sets on the skin and is then peeled off by hand) for the most effective and comfortable treatment possible. Only the best quality wax is used, and disposable spatulas are used on a once only basis – to ensure the highest standard of hygiene, health & Safety.

    Does waxing hurt?

    Is the Pope Catholic? Seriously, this differs from person to person. Usually people say that ti was not as bad as they thought it was going to be. We all have different tolerances to pain and discomfort. Your therapist will make sure that your treatment is as comfortable and pain free as possible. The BIG thing to remember is that the more wax treatments you have, the easier it becomes! So, make sure you boo your next appointment before you leave, or ask to be included in our Re-Call system to remind you a week or two before you are due to return. Having your hair removed by a qualified technician is essential to ensure it is done correctly and effectively.

    Will it feel uncomfortable afterwards?

    Some slight soreness and redness are common temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These should subside within a few hours, and many people find that regular waxing results in less irritation. It is not unusual for first time waxees to experience a few pimples on the chest and back - we recommend applying an antiseptic cream to the area for a few days after your treatment, which will help to soothe and protect the skin. Cream or soothing gel will be applied for you before you leave TJBodyRocks, and you may buy some to take home also, for an additional small charge.(Take home cream/lotion is included in the price of intimate waxing)

    Are there any conditions that would prevent me from getting waxed?

    Contagious skin conditions will prevent us from waxing the affected area until the condition has completely cleared. Clients taking Roaccutane must wait 6 months after finishing their medication before receiving a waxing treatment. We are also unable to remove hair from skin that is sunburnt, chafed or broken, or from skin that has been treated with steroid creams, Retin-A, Differin or other retinoid acne products within the last 3 months.

    Is there anything I should do to prepare for my treatment?

    Yes, please shower before your appointment and, if possible, gently exfoliate the areas you are having waxed for a few days beforehand (use a rough flannel, loofah or exfoliating glove when you are in the bath r shower.. This helps to remove any dead skin cells and lifts the hair.

    Do not shave or use hair removal creams (e.g. Veet) on the area for at least 3 weeks prior to your appointment, as hair needs to be a minimum of ½ cm long in order to wax successfully. If you are already getting waxed on a regular basis, you will need to leave at least 4 weeks between treatments. Don’t worry that your hair may be too long, your therapist will trim if necessary before waxing. We suggest wearing a clean, loose-fitting t-shirt if having your back or chest waxed, loose trousers for leg waxing, and clean cotton underwear for all Brazilian waxing.

    How long will the treatment take?

    This depends on the area being waxed and the density of hair. Eyebrows take about 15 minutes, legs 45-60 minutes, and a chest or back wax will take 30-50 minutes depending on hair growth. A first time Brazilian takes 60-90 minutes. We allow extra time for new clients so that you don't feel rushed, but it's also worth knowing that it gets quicker and easier every time you attend. You should also allow time to complete a small consultation form (or print it out from here and bring it along with you already completed and signed), as well as getting undressed and dressed again.

    How should I care for my skin afterwards?

    You must avoid heat and friction for at least 24 hours after your appointment. This means no hot baths or showers (washing with cool or lukewarm water is fine), no sunbathing, no saunas, hot tubs or steam rooms, no exercise, and no tight clothing that might cause excessive skin rubbing. You should also avoid swimming and the use of fragranced body lotions or sprays. We recommend applying an antiseptic cream (available to purchase from TJBodyRocks) to the freshly waxed area regularly for 3 days, to soothe and protect the skin. To help prevent ingrown hairs, scrub with a loofah or exfoliating mitt 3 times a week in the bath or shower, then follow with a light application of moisturiser. Can I book other treatments right after being waxed?

    Depending on the area waxed, we generally advise first time customers to wait a day or so before having a massage. You must leave at least 24 hours before tanning, which includes fake tanning and the use of UV sunbeds. A nice way to relax and feel all nice and soothed is to have one of our facial treatments; you will feel great when you leave.

    How long will the results last?

    This varies from person to person. Unlike shaving or hair removal creams, waxing removes hair by the root - this avoids the discomfort of itchy stubble and your hair will grow back slower, softer and sparser. Because of the way hair grows, it may take 3 or 4 appointments spaced evenly apart to get on a growth cycle that gives best results, but stick with it and you'll soon see what all the fuss is about. To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend waxing regularly every 4 to 6 weeks. Book your next appointment before you leave, or ask to be placed on our “re call system”.

    Waxing is not for me; do you offer any other method of hair removal?

    We believe in giving people a choice, and if after researching waxing, and asking any questions that you may have, you still decide not to be waxed, then we offer both a Clippering and a Shaving service.

    If your questions have not been answered here, check out ………………… or contact Terry by telephone, or e-mail, and he will get back to you as quickly as possible.

    How much does waxing cost?

    You will see from our price list that there is usually a between £xx & £xx. We believe this is a fairest system to use, rather than a one price fits all! Our charges are based on the amount of hair you have and how much of it you want removed, i.e. less hair = less money. If you have not been to TJBodyRocks before and call for a price, you will be quoted the minimum – maximum price, as until we see you, and know what needs to come off, it is impossible to give an exact price. If in doubt, ask
