Your 1st Reiki Session

You will be asked to complete a short consultation form, outlining any current medical conditions that you may have, and any medication you may be taking, as well as any recent injuries or operations. Please do not worry about any information you give, as it is absolutely confidential between the therapist and yourself.

You will also be asked why you have come for a reiki treatment, what you understand about Reiki, and what your expectations of the treatment are. You will be given an opportunity to ask any questions and to explore what it is that Reiki may be able to offer you.

You remain fully clothed for this treatment (you may take off your shoes, and also loosen any waistband, for your own comfort). The treatment is carried out with you laying on the treatment couch.

If any position is uncomfortable for you, it can often be adapted, and if necessary, your treatment can be carried out with you seated.

Some meditative calming music will be played in the background, and you will be asked to close your eyes and totally relax and empty your mind, becoming receptive to the reiki energy that is about to flow through your body.

Your therapist will connect with the energy by way of a simple symbolic action and will start the treatment by placing his hands very gently onto your shoulders.

Throughout the treatment, the therapists hands will move across your body, either lightly touching your body, or held slightly above.  The movements will cover from the crown of your head to your toes, and the length of time spent on each area will vary according to your specific needs.

You may feel some strange sensations during your treatment, either heat fromt the therapists hands, or a feeling of coolness.  Your limbs may feel terribly heavy, like they are sinking into the couch, or very light, as thought they are floating away.  You may visualise colours, and you may drift in and out of sleep.  These are just some feelings experienced by people receiving treatments, but then there are some people who feel absolutely nothing during the treatment, and feel a little disappointed initially – HOWEVER, do not be disappointed, as the energy has worked for you and has been of benefit, despite you not feeling anything at the time.

When the treatment is over, the therapist will tap you on your shoulder and ask you to open your eyes.  You will be asked to lay still for a moment or two whilst you are brought some chilled water to drink.

You can then, as you sip the water, discuss the treatment with your therapist and decide if you would like or need further treatments.
